You can have it all. Just not all at once. –Oprah Winfrey
Time is very limited for many of us. With the pressures of keeping a job, taking care of children, perhaps also assisting aging parents, and the daily activities of living, taking action on our dreams can seem overwhelming.
The feeling of overwhelm is the critical issue to overcome. Overwhelm can stop us from taking any action and then we feel worse. We evaluate our lives and see that here is another week, month, or year that our dreams are lying dormant. This can become a vicious cycle, impacting us to take less action, feel worse and even become depressed.
Fortunately, there is an easy solution to time limitation: quit fighting it. Once we accept the time limitations we can give ourselves some space and permission to engage our vision and dreams in a way that fits our current lifestyle.
One method I use to deal with time and overwhelm problems is to use the 11 minutes rule. Set your timer for 11 minutes and actively work on your dream or project for 11 minutes. For instance, if you are trying to start a home-based business, work on a project that will allow you to successfully move forward with that business during the 11 minutes you have set on your timer. Since any action taken moves you closer to obtaining your dream, short periods of time will produce results.
If you think about it in congregate, 11 minutes per day adds up to about 4,015 minutes per year. This is a significant amount of time to invest in your project, dreams and life transformation!
Using the 11-minute method to work on my goals feels very doable when I feel otherwise overbooked and busy. It calms me and encourages me to know that I have taken action and can accomplish something on my list of goals and “me” based projects. Interestingly, I find that I often continue to work on the project well after the 11 minutes has expired.
What do you have on your radar that 11 minutes could change in your life?
Cheering for your success!
